    Things to consider before buying a Windows Lumia smartphone

Microsoft surface 2: Initial impressions.

Productivity was the main reason why I chose MS Surface 2 as my tablet over iPad/Galaxy Tab 10.1, and me posting this article from the Surface is the clear indicator that it works as it says. This article is dedicated towards my initial impressions as I am a hardcore Android user.

One of the other reasons why I went for this tab was I got a Touch Cover free. It was a limited period offer and looked worth. It seems like a fair deal till now. So here we go..

Hardware:
For $449 the hardware configuration is very good. Performance is nippy and highly responsive. Build quality is superb and looks premium. The touch cover makes the tablet even more close to a light weight Laptop and acts like a protective cover. It has a expandable slot to increase memory up to 64 GB. USB 3.0 port and micro HDMI port which puts this product in a different league.

Performance:
Very good. However I don't know if its hardware or OS sometimes your touch is not recognized that well and you need to repeat your action a couple of times. The responsiveness compared to Android is much better without any lag. iOS responsiveness is better than Windows 8.1

Operating System:
Initial impressions are very good the hardware and software interaction is sublime. But the OS I think still has few visible bugs related to touch recognition. There is a learning curve but once you get used to it becomes second though.

Touch Cover:
Its a very strange piece of hardware. It has no keys to it and you don't get any feedback. The keys are little tiny but well placed. When a key is pressed you get a tok tok sound from your tab. But one problem here is many times the sound feedback is not given and if you are not looking at the screen you tend to retype the words and realize that you repeated those. It becomes a slight pain.

Eco System:
This I think is the biggest point which goes against this device. Lack of Apps especially free Apps. The apps are so limited that all your excitement vanishes and turns into disappointment. Top trending games and Apps from Android Store and Apple Store are missing. Since I come from Android ecosystem I was depressed to see such lack of apps.

Overall:
Its not love at first sight for sure and it feels like you are married to an unknown partner and falling in love slowly. Some people will have the patience to do so and some will simply move on. I am going to continue to use it for another week and keep posting my experiences especially dealing with the inbuilt Office Suite. Overall this tablet is more to do serious work than entertainment and you need to be prepared for that. But clearly for this tablet to succeed its very essential for the Apps to grow. Android and iOS have moved so far ahead that Microsoft will really have to use all the power they have to catch up else Microsoft will surely be the next Nokia and no one will even acquire it.

Upsells during the phone conversation can be awkward at any given occasion, especially when an agent is not too sure when to inject the idea. But with chat support, asking for a customer to buy something will generally not come across as pushy. The message is direct and there is no bad air that can stir a negative response. The right use of words on a chat can quickly spark the interest of a prospective customer for purchase or membership. Reading words do not give that pushy feeling. You can just type your response without the feel of being convinced too hard.

More Sincere and More Connected

Customers feel more attended to and taken care of when they have chat support agents addressing their needs. VIDEO: Android Wear the new platform for wearable gadets.

Looks like Samsung jumped in to the wearable technology market too soon. Google instead of hurrying into this market first launched a new platform Android Wear. Android Wear is the light weight Android OS which would primarily focus more on notifications and information as you need it with least interactions. Google wants to do it the right way rather than doing it first.

Most of the interactions will be voice based with least or no touch. Google Now will become the focal point of the OS. Google is focused on first exposing the platform to developers and allowing them to create new innovative Apps. These Apps will build a very strong wearable technology ecosystem.

This wearable ecosystem building strategy seems to be very logical and some very interesting wearable watches and devices could be built on top of it. Devices which are smart which store very little information on the device and use maximum cloud services. Samsung might even think of ditching their flagship OS Tizen which it unveiled few weeks back.

iOS 7 was supposed to have minor bug fixes and lesser UI changes but no it has many cool intuitive UI changes from animation settings to calendars to lock and unlock screens there are quiet a few UI upgrades.

Getty Images has allowed all blogger to use their images for free

This is perhaps one of the biggest and most welcoming news for the entire blogging community. Gone are the days where you have to search for high quality images which you are allowed to use on your blogs, store them on your images folder or some cloud service and link it back to your blog page.

Getty Images: One of the biggest database of high quality images has opened up its image repository to be used for free in any of your blogs any number of times for non commercial purposes. That means you can use them but not sell them. It is very similar to the embed code on youtube videos which allows you to embed any video on your blog.

90% of the blogging community always struggles with good quality images which make their article look not very professional. Getty Images took this decision so that it gets its share of popularity on the internet and it also attracts genuine buyers when the accidentally/intentionally visit your blog.

With this new approach millions of Getty images are available to be used for free and you don't even have to worry about hosting these images on any server. The embed code will simply point to the gettyimages server.

Here is what you need to do simple visit gettyimages.com > search your image > in the preview popup click on the embed button > you will be presented with the embed code.

Here is how the embedded image looks like. This way the image owner and Getty images automatically get the credit for their work and service.


Getty Images should have done this years back, but better late than never.
