Things to consider before buying a Windows Lumia smartphone

Guide to shopping used products online.

April 22, 2014

Buying and selling old stuff online is not a new concept but until few years back selling your old TV was an uphill task and getting good value for it was very difficult. Most of the times the TV would end up in a TV showroom in some exchange offer. Not to mention at dirt cheap prices. This type of business activity is called C2C (Customer to Customer).

The case with old phones was even worse, and same was applicable for any other articles in your house. The biggest problem was inability to reach the targeted audience. With the launch of online buy / sell portals this problem has been largely solved and people have started getting good value for their old articles.

Some times they get better price than they ever expected. Why such a huge change? Well people don't want to spend too much on new gadgets, especially bachelors and some folks have cash crunch for such things.

In the United States there are various portals where you can get really good stuff virtually for free or at very cheap prices. Its not that the things are bad but the average America discards his/her stuff much before its actual life ends. Every American wants to use the latest and greatest and hence these products are thrown out. In some cases they are given away for free just because they are so heavy that throwing them also costs them money.

In other parts of the world like Asia for example India and Bangladesh sites which allow you to  post free ads here are gaining huge popularity. Like Americans, people from the
Indian sub continent are not so keen on throwing away their household articles for free and they want very good value for them no matter how much they have used them.

The number of people wanting to buy these old products is also very high as the cost difference between buying old working product and brand new is almost three to four times. In some cases people had aspirations of owning particular products few years back and they were out of their budget, but because of this new platform people are able to discover these old products and actually buy them at 20 to 30% of its actual cost.

The advantage is for both buyer as well as seller. Buyer can have many options to choose from for the same product, depending on the age and price and locality of the product. Seller can expose their products to many potential buyers across the city. Sometimes people from across city are also willing to buy them in cases of bikes and cars.

I have personally sold many articles from my house and got great value for them. One thing you must keep in mind while posting the Ads on these portals is posting images and quoting reasonable prices. If you expect too much chances are you might not be able to sell them. Price should be such that it will make the buyer twice before looking at other Ads. Keeping the Boxes and Bills of these products gives more value as they prove you are the actual owner and buyer gets confidence while buying them.

So if you want to buy or sell any product just keep all the factors mentioned in this article and I am sure you will not be disappointed with either buying or selling these articles.

Microsoft surface 2: Initial impressions.

April 2, 2014

Productivity was the main reason why I chose MS Surface 2 as my tablet over iPad/Galaxy Tab 10.1, and me posting this article from the Surface is the clear indicator that it works as it says. This article is dedicated towards my initial impressions as I am a hardcore Android user.

One of the other reasons why I went for this tab was I got a Touch Cover free. It was a limited period offer and looked worth. It seems like a fair deal till now. So here we go..

For $449 the hardware configuration is very good. Performance is nippy and highly responsive. Build quality is superb and looks premium. The touch cover makes the tablet even more close to a light weight Laptop and acts like a protective cover. It has a expandable slot to increase memory up to 64 GB. USB 3.0 port and micro HDMI port which puts this product in a different league.

Very good. However I don't know if its hardware or OS sometimes your touch is not recognized that well and you need to repeat your action a couple of times. The responsiveness compared to Android is much better without any lag. iOS responsiveness is better than Windows 8.1

Operating System:
Initial impressions are very good the hardware and software interaction is sublime. But the OS I think still has few visible bugs related to touch recognition. There is a learning curve but once you get used to it becomes second though.

Touch Cover:
Its a very strange piece of hardware. It has no keys to it and you don't get any feedback. The keys are little tiny but well placed. When a key is pressed you get a tok tok sound from your tab. But one problem here is many times the sound feedback is not given and if you are not looking at the screen you tend to retype the words and realize that you repeated those. It becomes a slight pain.

Eco System:
This I think is the biggest point which goes against this device. Lack of Apps especially free Apps. The apps are so limited that all your excitement vanishes and turns into disappointment. Top trending games and Apps from Android Store and Apple Store are missing. Since I come from Android ecosystem I was depressed to see such lack of apps.

Its not love at first sight for sure and it feels like you are married to an unknown partner and falling in love slowly. Some people will have the patience to do so and some will simply move on. I am going to continue to use it for another week and keep posting my experiences especially dealing with the inbuilt Office Suite. Overall this tablet is more to do serious work than entertainment and you need to be prepared for that. But clearly for this tablet to succeed its very essential for the Apps to grow. Android and iOS have moved so far ahead that Microsoft will really have to use all the power they have to catch up else Microsoft will surely be the next Nokia and no one will even acquire it.

Chat Support to Increase Conversion Rate

March 26, 2014

Chat support is one customer communication method that’s still underestimated by some companies. Wrong notions and ideas have been created around it. But it’s a fresh concept which consumers really like.  It provides an excellent experience for the customer and it can become a powerful tool for increasing sales and conversion. Here are some of the ways live chat can affect conversion rates for good.

Better than Email

Live chat is definitely better than email due to its response time in addressing customer queries. People can now chat with an agent and get the answers right away, rather than waiting for an email. When questions are addressed quickly, customers are more likely to purchase what they need, without the inconvenience of time. Buyer interest is also saved because time delay in giving responses is removed, not giving customers time to doubt and look for other options.

Easier to Retain Information

People are more likely to retain information that they see on a website, rather than what they hear over the phone. In fact, most people are likely to talk with someone with pen and paper because they can’t remember details during the conversation. When communication is done via live chat, customers can read the exchange over and over, not missing anything on their part.

More Comfortable for Communication

When customers are engaged with live chat they gain confidence in speaking with the agent. There are individuals who are apprehensive about talking over the phone for various reasons. But when they chat, the only thing that matters is the message seen on the chatbox and nothing more. There is also time to think of the response, which is great for eliminating misunderstanding and improving communication. They are also given the freedom to start, continue, or stop the conversation when they want, making them feel like they’re on top of the world.

Excellent for Busy Customers

We all know that simply finding the time to make a call can be a challenge some days.  With live chat, customers who are online can do other things like viewing videos, surfing different websites, or working with projects while they seek additional information about your product or service. Live chat allows people the option to multitask as and when they want. And it’s not just limited to being in front of the computer. Some on-the-go customers can even chat using a smartphone while in a busy waiting room waiting for their appointment or while using public transport…places where they generally wouldn’t call you from.

Upsells will not Sound Pushy

Upsells during the phone conversation can be awkward at any given occasion, especially when an agent is not too sure when to inject the idea. But with chat support, asking for a customer to buy something will generally not come across as pushy. The message is direct and there is no bad air that can stir a negative response. The right use of words on a chat can quickly spark the interest of a prospective customer for purchase or membership. Reading words do not give that pushy feeling. You can just type your response without the feel of being convinced too hard.

More Sincere and More Connected

Customers feel more attended to and taken care of when they have chat support agents addressing their needs. The accessibility of the chat rids the feeling of a “barrier” between the company and the customer.  Chat support agents, especially when they have great command with words, can do more than agents over the phone. They can empathize, give direction, offer help, and ease tension without creating a sound of doubt or pessimism. Agents create a connection that’s easier to get attached to.

It’s just as effective as a phone call, but is not as costly for the company. Agents can even handle more than one chat session at a time, thus saving expenditure on manpower. With these benefits, companies can still aim for achieving high sales and conversion rates without putting too much stress on resources.

VIDEO: Android Wear the new platform for wearable gadets.

March 19, 2014

Looks like Samsung jumped in to the wearable technology market too soon. Google instead of hurrying into this market first launched a new platform Android Wear. Android Wear is the light weight Android OS which would primarily focus more on notifications and information as you need it with least interactions. Google wants to do it the right way rather than doing it first.

Most of the interactions will be voice based with least or no touch. Google Now will become the focal point of the OS. Google is focused on first exposing the platform to developers and allowing them to create new innovative Apps. These Apps will build a very strong wearable technology ecosystem.

This wearable ecosystem building strategy seems to be very logical and some very interesting wearable watches and devices could be built on top of it. Devices which are smart which store very little information on the device and use maximum cloud services. Samsung might even think of ditching their flagship OS Tizen which it unveiled few weeks back.

Take a peek at the wearable technology future from Google.
