When Steve Jobs was building the first iPhone he had initially approached Intel to design the processor for the first gen iPhone. This was revealed by the former Intel CEO Paul Otellini. Intel quoted a tender which was not fitting into Apples budget.
Both parties tried there best but none compromised on their stand and stayed firm and finally Apple moved on. Paul even went on to say that it was his Gut feeling to say yes but unfortunately his head won the battle and the opportunity was lost forever.
Had Intel said yes to the initial proposal it would have been a historic union for Apple and Intel to be partners and the world would have seen may be a faster iPhone and Intel would not have to struggled to make its mark in the cell phone market.
But you never know in the world of technology things change constantly and who knows one day Intel will be found inside Apple.
